[Goldfish] — A Visual & Sonic Study
Format: One-shot / 210-second Evolving Long Take
Directed & Staged by: Xueni Yang
Cinematography by: May Yi Then
Sound & Original Music by: Patrik Herman
Text: "A Smile to Remember" by Charles Bukowski
This study is a 3.5-minute exploration of visual and sonic textures, aiming to deconstruct the emotional layers of domestic trauma. The challenge was to interpret a highly explicit text through a restrained and evolving visual language.
By employing a continuous long-take, the cinematography by May Yi Then choreographs a transition from a guarded, profile-view silence to an inescapable, front-on vulnerability. Against a non-linear soundscape by Patrik Herman, the work seeks to balance the aggression of the spoken word with a slow, suffocating intimacy—culminating in a period of weighted silence that serves as the final, visceral resolution.
